- WhatsApp allows users to restrict people from adding them to groups.
- Users can allow everyone, their contacts, or selected contacts to add them to groups.
- Users can also mute notifications of a group or exit a group they don’t want to be part of.
Have you ever been randomly added to a group on WhatsApp but did not want to be a part of it? You may have tried the mute notifications option to silence the incessant forwards, but may have feared exiting groups because people may find it rude.
But did you know you also had the option to choose who can add you to groups? WhatsApp gives you the option to allow select people to add you to groups. Follow these steps:
–Open WhatsApp > Select the More option or the three dots on the right-hand side
— Go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Groups
Select from the following options if you want to be added to groups.
Everyone: If you select everyone, all WhatsApp users, including those who numbers you have not saved, will be able to add you to a WhatsApp group.
My Contacts: Only your contacts will be able to add you to groups without your permission. If a person is not able to add you to a group he will be able to send you an invite link through which you can join.
My contacts except: This option gives you the choice to restrict certain contacts from adding you.
Now, if you are already part of a group and do not want to receive notifications, you can simply mute them. Follow these steps:
To mute notifications of a WhatsApp group:
— Go to the group whose notifications you want to mute
— Select the More option or three dots on the right
— Select options for Mute notifications for 1 year, 8 hours, and 1 week.
— There will be a prompt which asks if you want to see notifications from that group. Check the box if you want to mute the group but still want to see notifications from it.
— Click on Okay or Done to enable mute.
You can also exit a group you no longer wish to be a part of by following the given steps:
To exit a WhatsApp group:
— Go to the group you want to exit.
–Select the More option or the three dots on the right
–Select Exit Group
–Confirm prompt by selecting “Exit”
