In a shocking incident, a man killed his wife reportedly because he wanted to live with his girlfriend. The man was allegedly inspired by the Malayalam film ‘Drishyam’.
After committing the crime, the accused also filed a complaint with the police claiming his wife has gone missing.
Ernakulum Police has arrested the accused, identified as Premkumar, and his alleged girlfriend Sunitha in connection with the crime.
According to the police, the accused killed his wife on September 20.
Premkumar and his wife Vidhya stayed in a villa in Thiruvananthapuram on September 20 and at night, Premkumar strangled Vidhya to death with his Sunitha’s help.
In the early hours of the next day, they disposed Vidhya’s body at an isolated area near the national highway within the Valliyoor police station limit in Tamil Nadu.
Immediately after the disposing his wife’s body, Premkumar reached the Udhayamperur police station and filed a missing complaint of his wife.
Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner said that the accused tried to deliberately mislead the investigation.
“Apparently, Premkumar kept Vidhya’s phone inside the dustbin of a long-distance train. This was a deliberate plan to mislead us. Premkumar has admitted that he has drawn inspiration from the Malayalam movie ‘Drishyam’ to do this,” the Assistant Commissioner said.
“Sunitha has direct involvement in the crime. She is working as a nurse in a hospital in Thiruvanthapuram. She confirmed that she helped Premkumar dispose-off the body. Premkumar and Sunitha wanted to live together and that is the prime motive behind the crime,” he added.
Assistant commissioner also said that during the course of investigation Premkumar moved an anticipatory bail plea which raised their suspicion.
“It was an unusual move from the complainant in a ‘man missing’ case. He also approached the higher officials alleging police harassment. After this, we tightened the noose and managed to zero-in on the accused,” he said.
