A few days after revamping the prepaid plans and increasing prices, close to 40 per cent in some cases, Jio has now revealed two new affordable pre-paid plans. They cost Rs 98 and Rs 149.
- Of the two plans, the Rs 149 plan by Jio is aimed at heavy data users as it offers 1GB daily data.
- The Rs 98 plan, seems to be aimed at talkers, as it gives only 2GB data for entire plan duration.
- To get maximum out of Rs 98 Jio Plan, subscribers will have to use it with a call-top plan.
The telecom market is in a flux right now with all three major companies — Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea — increasing prepaid prices by up to 40 per cent. The price hike was announced earlier this month, with Jio’s new costlier plans coming into effect from December 6. Now the company has come out with two new plans, which are more affordable and are aimed at cost-conscious Jio users. The two new Jio pre-paid plans cost Rs 98 and Rs 149.
Actually these two plans were available earlier as well but the plan list the Jio published for December 6 did not have them. Now, we see that these plans are available on the Jio website.
The Rs 149 plan from Jio is listed under the 1GB data plan on the Jio website. Clicking on it reveals its details. The recharge of this Rs 149 plan will give Jio users access to 1GB daily data at 4G speeds for 24 days. If the daily data limit has been reached, the speed will be reduced to 64kbps until the next day. In addition to the 4G data, the plan also gives users unlimited calls to Jio users. Calls made to users of other telecom companies like Vodafone and Airtel have a limit of 300 minutes for the entire 24 days duration of the plan. Once the limit is reached users will have to pay IUC charges, which means 6 paisa per minute. To avoid this, users will have option to subscribe to a call top-up plans, the cheapest of which costs Rs 10.
In addition, the Rs 149 will also give Jio users access to Jio apps as well 100 SMS per day. All in all, this seems like a pretty decent plan for users who consume a lot of data on their phone. 1GB data per day is plenty for most users, and the Rs 149 plan is surely quite affordable.
The focus of the Rs 98 plan is different. This one is aimed at giving Jio users connectivity on the cheap as it offers 2GB high-speed data for its entirety. But unlike the Rs 149 plan, this one comes with validity of regular 28 days. It also gives users access to 300 SMS, for the entirety of the plan duration and provides consumers unlimited calls to Jio numbers. However, calls to phone numbers of other telecom companies like Airtel and Vodafone are charged with IUC charges of 6 paisa per minute. This is the reason why Jio recommends that this plan, if users are going to make lot of calls through it, should be used with Rs 10 Jio top-up that gives users 124 minutes of free calling to any number or numbers.
The Rs 98 plan has been listed on Jio website under affordable prepaid plans.
Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea after increasing the prices of prepaid plans earlier this month are now looking to retain the cost-conscious subscribers. The Rs 98 and Rs 149 Jio plans are aimed at these users. It is likely that Airtel and Vodafone will also offer similar plans to their users.
